Purchasing Specialist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Purchasing Specialist to join their established procurement team in Birmingham . You will be responsible for the day-to-day execution of purchasing activities, including sourcing materials, processing purchase orders, and managing supplier communications to ensure timely delivery of goods and services. This role is critical for maintaining operational continuity and requires someone with excellent organizational skills and a keen eye for detail, supporting the broader purchasing function and contributing to the efficiency of the supply chain within a busy industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Process purchase requisitions and convert them into purchase orders accurately and efficiently.
• Source suppliers, obtain quotes, and compare pricing for various goods and services.
• Manage supplier communications, track order progress, and resolve any discrepancies or delivery issues.
• Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and supplier performance in the procurement system.
• Collaborate with internal departments to understand their purchasing needs and ensure timely fulfillment.
• Assist in the evaluation of supplier performance and contribute to the development of preferred supplier lists.

Requirements

• 2-4 years of experience in a purchasing or procurement role.
• Proficiency in using procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
• Strong understanding of the purchasing cycle and best practices.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• A relevant qualification or degree in Business or Supply Chain is advantageous.
