Job Description
Quality Engineer
Greater Manchester | Precision Machining | Oil & Gas
£35,000 - £40,000 + benefits
An established Precision Machining business based in Greater Manchester is looking to recruit a Quality Engineer to join its experienced and friendly team.
The company has a strong customer base within the oil & gas industry and is part of a larger group, offering the feel of a close-knit manufacturing environment alongside the support and stability of a wider organisation.
This is a varied, hands-on Quality Engineering position covering Quality Systems, compliance, inspection, non-conformance management and continuous improvement. You’ll be involved throughout the manufacturing process, from receipt of the customer purchase order through to final product inspection and dispatch.
The Role
Working closely with Production, Technical and the wider Quality team, you will:
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System, in line with ISO 9001:2015 and API Q1
- Take responsibility for the Non-Conformance (NCR) process, from identification and documentation through to resolution
- Lead and support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA)
- Assist with customer complaints, supplier NCRs and product rejection investigations
- Maintain quality documentation including inspection reports, material traceability records, test certificates and final documentation packs
- Ensure full material, product and documentation traceability throughout manufacture
- Conduct in-process and final inspections against drawings, specifications and customer requirements
- Coordinate customer and third-party inspections
- Participate in internal audits and identify opportunities for improvement
- Analyse defect trends, NCR data and production metrics
- Work closely with Production to reduce scrap, rework and process variation
- Support wider continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, efficiency and reliability
What We’re Looking For
You’ll ideally have:
- Experience in a Quality role within manufacturing
- ISO 9001:2015 Internal Audit certification
- Experience implementing and maintaining Quality Management System documentation
- Good knowledge of NCR, Root Cause Analysis and CAPA
- Experience with material certification and traceability
- Knowledge of statistical quality/process control tools such as SPC
- An understanding of dimensional inspection equipment including micrometres, verniers and thread gauges
- Familiarity with API, ASTM or ASME standards would be advantageous
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Good communication, documentation and reporting skills
- A proactive continuous improvement mindset
Why Join?
You’ll be joining an experienced and friendly team within an established Greater Manchester precision machining business.
The role offers plenty of variety and the opportunity to work closely with manufacturing rather than being confined to a purely systems-based Quality position. You’ll have exposure to inspection, Quality Systems, problem-solving, compliance, documentation and continuous improvement.
Being part of a larger group also provides the backing and stability of a wider organisation while retaining the collaborative environment of a specialist manufacturing operation.
If you’re a Quality Engineer who enjoys getting involved, solving problems and working alongside manufacturing teams to make tangible improvements, this could be an excellent next move.
