Quantity Surveyor

Quantity Surveyor | Main Contractor | External Refurbishment | Essex | Permanent

I'm working with a growing main contractor who are looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor following a significant increase in secured workload.

The business has grown turnover by 45%, effectively moving a year ahead of its growth plan, and now has a substantial long-term order book through established local authority and housing association frameworks.

This is an opportunity for an ambitious QS to join a close-knit commercial team where there is plenty of support, but also genuine scope to take ownership, gain recognition and progress as the business grows.

The Role

• Commercial management of external refurbishment and roofing projects
• Managing approximately 2-5 live projects, depending on size
• Projects ranging from smaller works through to £10m
• Procurement and management of subcontract packages
• Valuations, variations, cost reporting and forecasting
• Managing subcontractor accounts through to final account
• Office-based with approximately 1-2 site visits per week

Current Workload

• Several c£3.5m external refurbishment projects
• Significant secured framework workload across social housing
• Long-term relationships with housing associations and local authorities

What they're looking for

• Quantity Surveyor with approximately 5-6 years' experience
• External refurbishment experience is key
• Roofing experience advantageous, but not essential
• Experience working across social housing / planned works beneficial
• Comfortable commercially managing multiple projects
• Energetic and ambitious - someone looking to progress rather than simply maintain their current level

• Circa £30m turnover, following 45% growth
• Long-term target to grow towards £60m turnover
• Significant secured order book and established framework relationships
• Structured commercial team including Commercial Manager, Senior QSs, Project QS, QSs and Trainee support
• Dedicated buying and document/commercial support functions
• Relaxed, non-corporate and close-knit office environment
• Clear reporting lines and opportunities to gain recognition as the company grows
