Remote Environmental Scientist - Mining Compliance

About the Role

This role is vital for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, developing sustainability strategies, and managing environmental impact assessments for new and existing projects. You will work closely with regulatory bodies, site teams, and management to uphold the highest environmental standards. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage environmental management plans for mining projects, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation.
• Conduct Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and prepare environmental permit applications.
• Monitor environmental performance, including water quality, air emissions, and land remediation, providing analysis and recommendations.
• Liaise effectively with regulatory agencies (e.g., Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales) to ensure smooth permitting and compliance processes.
• Advise project teams and management on environmental best practices, risk mitigation, and sustainability initiatives in the mining sector .
• Respond to and manage environmental incidents, developing preventative strategies for the future.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in environmental consultancy or management, with a strong focus on mining and extractive industries .
• In-depth knowledge of UK environmental legislation and permitting processes relevant to land development and resource extraction .
• Proven experience in conducting EIAs, developing environmental management systems, and site remediation strategies.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently in a remote work environment .
