Remote Insurance Underwriter - Specialist Lines

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Remote Insurance Underwriter with expertise in Specialist Lines to join their dedicated, remote-first team. You will be responsible for evaluating and accepting complex risks that fall outside standard insurance categories, such as professional indemnity, cyber, or environmental liability. This role requires a deep understanding of niche markets, meticulous risk assessment capabilities, and the ability to make informed decisions independently. As a fully remote position, you will leverage digital collaboration tools to connect with brokers, underwriters, and management, contributing to the strategic growth and profitability of the company's specialist insurance offerings from your home office.

Key Responsibilities

• Underwrite complex and non-standard insurance risks within specialist lines, adhering to underwriting appetite and guidelines.
• Analyze detailed submissions, assess potential exposures, and determine appropriate terms, conditions, and pricing.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with specialist brokers and underwriting partners.
• Monitor the performance of the specialist lines portfolio, identifying trends and potential areas for improvement.
• Collaborate with claims teams to understand loss trends and inform underwriting strategies.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting tools, guidelines, and strategies for specialist classes.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years' experience in underwriting specialist insurance lines .
• In-depth knowledge of at least one or more specialist classes (e.g., Cyber, Professional Indemnity, Directors & Officers, Construction).
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and risk assessment skills.
• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities, particularly with brokers and intermediaries.
• Proficiency in underwriting systems and data analysis tools.
• Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., ACII) are highly advantageous.
