About the Role
Our client is seeking an accomplished Remote Lead Technical Animator to guide their animation pipeline and technical execution from anywhere. This fully remote position requires a blend of artistic skill, technical expertise, and leadership to ensure our animated assets are high-quality, performant, and efficiently integrated. You will oversee the technical aspects of animation, develop tools and workflows, and mentor a remote team of technical animators. This is an exciting opportunity to influence the animation process and contribute to visually stunning projects without the need for relocation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a remote team of technical animators, providing guidance and feedback.
- Develop and optimize animation pipelines, tools, and workflows using scripting languages (e.g., Python, MEL).
- Ensure animation assets meet technical specifications and performance targets for real-time environments.
- Collaborate with character artists, riggers, and game developers to troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges.
- Implement and maintain animation systems within game engines.
- Research and integrate new technologies and techniques to enhance animation quality and efficiency.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in technical animation, with a minimum of 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
- Expertise in character rigging, skinning, and animation principles.
- Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, MEL, or C# for tool development.
- Strong understanding of game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity) and their animation systems.
- Experience with motion capture data cleanup and retargeting.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills, suitable for a remote team.
