Remote Mechanical Design Engineer - Product Development

About the Role

Our client is actively seeking a talented and self-driven Remote Mechanical Design Engineer to join their innovative product development team, serving clients in the Plymouth region and beyond. This position focuses on the end-to-end design and development of new consumer and industrial products, from initial concept and prototyping through to production readiness. You will be instrumental in translating innovative ideas into functional, manufacturable, and market-leading products. Operating in a fully remote capacity, this role demands strong independent work habits, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with distributed teams to drive product success.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of new products using 3D CAD software and associated tools.
• Conduct feasibility studies, conceptual design exploration, and detailed design for components and assemblies.
• Perform structural, thermal, and dynamic analysis (FEA) to ensure product performance and reliability.
• Develop and maintain detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOM).
• Collaborate closely with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and manufacturing partners in a virtual setting.
• Support prototyping, testing, and validation activities, providing remote engineering expertise.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical product design and development.
• Expertise in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360) and FEA simulation tools.
• Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes (injection molding, CNC machining, etc.), and DFM principles.
• Proven ability to manage design projects effectively in a fully remote environment.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
