Remote Mine Safety Officer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Mine Safety Officer to join their operational support team, working entirely remotely from Portsmouth or another suitable location. This role is crucial for ensuring the highest standards of health and safety across all mining projects. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, and providing guidance on compliance with relevant legislation. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety management systems for mining operations.
• Conduct thorough risk assessments, hazard analyses, and safety audits across project sites.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable national and international health and safety regulations and legislation.
• Provide expert advice and training to site personnel and management on safety best practices.
• Maintain safety records, prepare reports, and track key safety performance indicators (KPIs).

Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, NVQ Level 3/4).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
• Strong knowledge of mining operations and associated hazards.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing safety management systems.
• Excellent understanding of relevant UK health and safety legislation.
• Strong communication, influencing, and reporting skills, suitable for remote interaction.
