About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Remote Senior Data Scientist to join their innovative analytics team, focusing on optimizing mining operations through advanced data-driven insights. You will be instrumental in developing predictive models, analytical frameworks, and machine learning solutions that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve safety across their global mining activities, with a primary focus on their Sunderland operational hub. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere in the UK, leveraging vast datasets from exploration, extraction, and processing. You will collaborate closely with geologists, engineers, and operational managers to translate complex data into actionable strategies, driving significant improvements in resource management and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models for predictive maintenance, resource forecasting, and operational optimization in mining.
• Analyze large, complex datasets from various sources (e.g., sensors, geological surveys, production logs) to identify key trends and opportunities.
• Develop and maintain data pipelines and analytical dashboards for real-time monitoring of mining operations.
• Collaborate with domain experts to define analytical requirements and translate business problems into data science solutions.
• Communicate complex findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and their applications within the mining industry .

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of professional experience as a Data Scientist , with a proven track record of delivering impactful data-driven solutions.
• Expertise in Python or R, and proficiency with data manipulation and machine learning libraries (e.g., Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Strong experience with SQL and working with large-scale datasets and databases.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, essential for a remote working environment.
