About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Senior Medicinal Chemist to join their globally recognised drug discovery team. This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere in the UK, with a focus on contributing to cutting-edge research and development initiatives. You will lead the design, synthesis, and optimization of novel small molecules targeting key disease pathways. This role is ideal for a seasoned chemist who excels in problem-solving, possesses a deep understanding of structure-activity relationships (SAR), and is eager to drive projects forward in a dynamic, virtual research environment, contributing to groundbreaking pharmaceutical advancements.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and synthesize novel chemical entities with a focus on specific therapeutic targets.
• Optimize lead compounds through iterative cycles of design, synthesis, and biological testing.
• Collaborate closely with biologists, pharmacologists, and computational chemists to define project goals and strategies.
• Utilize modern synthetic methodologies and purification techniques to deliver high-quality compounds.
• Interpret and present complex SAR data to project teams and management.
• Contribute to the strategic direction of drug discovery programs and mentor junior chemists.

Requirements

• PhD in Organic or Medicinal Chemistry with a strong publication record.
• Minimum of 6 years of post-doctoral or industrial experience in medicinal chemistry within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sector.
• Proven track record in the design and synthesis of small molecules for drug discovery.
• Expertise in modern synthetic organic chemistry, including retrosynthesis and parallel synthesis.
• Strong understanding of ADMET properties and their influence on drug design.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills for effective remote teamwork.
