Research Associate - Polymer Chemistry

About the Role

Our client is seeking a motivated Research Associate with a specialization in Polymer Chemistry to join their innovative R&D team in Sunderland . This role is focused on the synthesis, characterization, and application development of novel polymeric materials. You will contribute to projects aimed at creating advanced materials for a range of industries, working within a state-of-the-art laboratory. Key Responsibilities

• Synthesize polymers using various polymerization techniques (e.g., free radical, condensation, living polymerization).
• Characterize synthesized polymers using techniques such as GPC, NMR, DSC, TGA, and FTIR.
• Develop and execute experiments to evaluate polymer properties and performance for specific applications.
• Assist in the scale-up of polymerization processes from laboratory to pilot scale.
• Collaborate with senior scientists and engineers on material development projects.
• Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and contribute to technical reports and presentations.

Requirements

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Polymer Chemistry, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience in polymer synthesis and characterization techniques.
• Familiarity with common analytical instrumentation used in polymer science.
• Good understanding of polymer structure-property relationships.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in our Sunderland laboratory.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
