Research Scientist - Organic Chemistry

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented and dedicated Research Scientist with expertise in organic chemistry to join their innovative R&D team in Southampton . This role focuses on the synthesis and characterization of novel chemical compounds for applications in materials science and pharmaceutical intermediates. You will be responsible for designing synthetic routes, conducting challenging organic reactions, and purifying and analyzing synthesized molecules using advanced spectroscopic techniques. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in synthetic organic chemistry principles, meticulous laboratory skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute synthetic routes for novel organic molecules, including multi-step syntheses.
• Perform reactions safely and efficiently, optimizing conditions for yield and purity.
• Purify synthesized compounds using techniques such as chromatography and crystallization.
• Characterize synthesized compounds using advanced spectroscopic methods (NMR, Mass Spectrometry, IR).
• Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and prepare technical reports on experimental findings.
• Collaborate with other scientists to troubleshoot synthetic challenges and advance project goals.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field.
• Proven experience in synthetic organic chemistry, including a wide range of reaction types.
• Proficiency in purification techniques (e.g., column chromatography, recrystallization).
• Experience with modern spectroscopic characterization techniques (e.g., 1D/2D NMR, LC-MS, GC-MS).
• Familiarity with common laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
