Sales Manager Are you a mechanically minded sales professional with experience in subcontract manufacturing, machining or engineering? An established and market-leading engineering business based in Sheffield is looking to appoint an experienced Sales Manager/Business development Manager to join its expanding team. Salary: circa £40,000 depending on experience Permanent | 37 hours per week The company specialises in the design and manufacture of medium to heavy mechanical engineering projects and products, supplying a diverse range of market sectors. Due to continued expansion, they are seeking a technically minded sales professional with a proven track record of developing new and existing business within mechanical engineering.It would be expected that the candidate be from a sales background and be target driven; it would be advantageous for the candidate to have a good mechanical engineering qualification. There will be frequent UK travel therefore a clean UK driving license is essential.
The Role
- Identify new leads and target relevant companies and sectors.
- Develop qualified leads and convert prospects into active opportunities.
- Engage with prospective customers to understand their technical requirements, needs and commercial opportunities.
- Assist with the preparation of technical quotations and proposals.
- Secure enquiries and identify suitable contract opportunities.
- Follow up on submitted quotations and proposals.
- Negotiate and overcome objections to maximise conversion.
- Convert quotations and proposals into confirmed orders.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records within the CRM system to maximise sales opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships to generate repeat and additional business.
- Proactively account manage and develop existing clients.
- Identify opportunities for cross-selling and business growth within existing accounts. Ideal Experience The successful candidate will ideally have a background within mechanical engineering, fabrication, machining or subcontract manufacturing. Experience within heavy machinery, CNC machining or laser cutting would be particularly advantageous. You will have:
- A strong technical understanding of engineering products and manufacturing processes.
- Previous experience within a relevant engineering or manufacturing environment — ideally fabrication and machining.
- A proven track record in generating new business and developing existing accounts.
- Strong lead generation, prospecting and business development skills.
- Experience identifying target companies and key decision-makers.
- A demonstrable track record of selling into relevant industrial or engineering sectors.
- Experience selling bespoke, engineered or high-volume contracts.
- Strong commercial and negotiation skills, with the ability to convert opportunities into orders.
- A mechanical engineering background or relevant engineering qualification. Personal Qualities We are looking for someone who is: Ambitious, credible and technically minded.
