Permanent About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated, reliable, and proactive
School Caretaker
to join our site team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for ensuring our school campus is secure, safe, clean, and well-maintained, providing a warm and welcoming environment for our pupils, staff, and visitors. Working from
7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday to Friday , you will play a key role in the daily opening of the school, routine maintenance, health and safety checks, and campus security. Key Responsibilities
Site Opening & Security:
Open and unlock the school premises each morning, carrying out daily perimeter checks to ensure the site is secure and safe for arrival.
General Maintenance & Repairs:
Carry out minor routine repairs, painting, basic carpentry, plumbing fixes, and ongoing maintenance tasks across the premises.
Health & Safety Compliance:
Perform routine statutory checks, including water temperature logging, fire alarm testing, emergency lighting checks, and maintaining accurate logs.
Grounds & Premises Upkeep:
Keep pathways, playgrounds, and communal areas clean, tidy, and free of hazards (including seasonal gritting and clearance during winter).
Porterage & Deliveries:
Receive deliveries, distribute parcels around the school, and assist with setting up rooms, furniture, and equipment for assemblies, meetings, and events.
Contractor Liaison:
Escort visiting maintenance contractors on site and ensure work is completed safely and in accordance with school guidelines.
Requirements & Qualifications
Experience
Previous experience in site maintenance, caretaking, facilities management, or a relevant trade (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, or DIY skills).
Knowledge:
Familiarity with basic Health & Safety practices, COSHH guidelines, and manual handling procedures.
Attributes:
Self-motivated, proactive, organized, and capable of working independently as well as part of a wider school team.
Communication:
Friendly, professional demeanor with good communication skills when interacting with staff, visitors, and contractors.
Safeguarding:
Mandatory requirement to undergo an
Enhanced DBS check
prior to starting (or hold an active update service registration).
