An exciting opportunity has arisen to join one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects at Old Oak Common, supporting the delivery of critical highways and utility works on a major rail and transportation programme.
We are seeking an ambitious Section Engineer or Assistant Package Manager who is looking to take the next step in their career, combining strong engineering fundamentals with growing package management responsibilities.
This role sits within the highways and utilities team and will focus on the coordination, planning and management of works rather than day-to-day delivery activities on site. You will play a key role in managing contractors, driving programme delivery, and ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality and performance.
The Role
Reporting into the Package Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the planning, coordination and delivery of highways and utility works, ensuring activities are executed safely, efficiently and in line with project requirements.
You'll work closely with contractors, designers, stakeholders and delivery teams to manage interfaces, resolve challenges and drive progress across your section of works
Duties
- Supporting the management and delivery of highways and utility packages.
- Coordinating contractors and ensuring work is delivered against programme objectives.
- Providing engineering oversight and technical support across your section.
- Reviewing designs, construction methodologies and temporary works requirements.
- Managing health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
- Supporting pre-construction activities, including planning, constructability reviews and stakeholder engagement.
- Monitoring progress, identifying risks and implementing mitigation measures.
- Ensuring accurate records, reporting and documentation are maintained.
- Managing interfaces between multiple disciplines and work packages.
- Supporting the management of non-contestable utility works where applicable.
- Working collaboratively with commercial, planning and design teams to achieve project objectives.
Person Specification
- Experience as a Section Engineer, Site Engineer or Assistant Package Manager within civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Strong setting out knowledge and practical site engineering experience.
- Experience delivering highways, utility or major infrastructure works.
- Good understanding of planning, programme management and construction sequencing.
- Strong health & safety awareness with knowledge of quality management processes.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors and managing site interfaces.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- CSCS Card.
- SMSTS qualification.
- Full understanding of construction drawings, specifications and engineering controls.
Desirable
- Experience working on major infrastructure, rail or transport projects.
- Knowledge of utility diversions and non-contestable works.
- Experience supporting pre-construction and constructability activities.
- Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Working towards professional accreditation (ICE, IEng or CEng).
