SEN Teaching Assistant - SEMH
Location: Croydon, London
Salary: £93 - £105 per day, depending on qualifications and experience.
Contract: Temporary; full-time availability preferred, working pattern to be agreed
Start date: 05/10/2026
Hours: Term time - 8:30 - 3:30 - school day
Can you stay calm, listen carefully and help a child return to learning after a difficult moment? Transparency Education is looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs in Croydon.
You will help pupils feel understood while reinforcing clear, consistent boundaries. This position would suit someone with relevant experience in education, youth work or care who can build trusting professional relationships.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and small-group support during lessons and transitions
- Use agreed strategies to help pupils recognise feelings and regulate emotions
- Reinforce positive behaviour and celebrate achievable goals
- Support engagement with learning after periods of difficulty
- Keep factual records and share concerns with appropriate staff
- Follow behaviour support plans and respond to incidents within school procedures
Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs
- Emotional resilience and a calm approach to challenging situations
- The ability to follow agreed boundaries consistently
- Clear communication and an understanding of professional safeguarding responsibilities
- An enhanced DBS check, or willingness to complete one.
