Sen Teaching Assistant

Bright Star Talent are currently working with a specialist school looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support students aged 11–19 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

This is a role for someone who is comfortable working in a specialist setting and understands that every student has different needs. The successful candidate will provide consistent support throughout the school day, helping students with their learning, communication, behaviour and independence.

The Role

• Supporting students aged 11–19 with ASD

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support where required

• Helping students access lessons and take part in activities

• Supporting communication and social development

• Helping students develop greater independence and confidence

• Using a calm and consistent approach when supporting behaviour

• Recognising when students may become overwhelmed and providing appropriate support

• Following individual support plans and strategies put in place by the school

• Working closely with teachers and other members of the SEN team

• Building positive and trusting relationships with students

• Supporting students throughout the school day, including break and lunchtime

The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for someone who is patient, calm and confident working with young people with additional needs.

Previous experience supporting students with ASD is important, particularly within a specialist school or similar setting. Experience supporting students with communication difficulties, sensory needs or challenging behaviour would also be beneficial.

Most importantly, you'll need to be someone who can remain calm, build trust and understand that progress can look different for every student.

Requirements

• Previous experience supporting students with ASD

• Experience working with young people aged 11–19 is desirable

• Enhanced DBS required

• Good understanding of SEN and different learning needs

• Patient and consistent approach

• Good communication skills

• Reliable and committed

• Right to work in the UK
