Job Description

The University islooking for an impressive individual to support the Deputy Headof Quality Enhancement and Assurance Team (Senate Office) indelivering a high-quality secretariat to Senate and SenateBusiness Committee and act as Deputy Committee Manager tothese committees. The Senate Officer will also be responsible forreviewing academic appeals and discipline cases and producingrecommendation reports for senior colleagues of the University,including the Vice-Principal and the University Secretary. TheSenate Officer will be an effective communicator who is able toproficiently manage their own workload to ensure that deadlinesare consistently met.
The Senate Officer will be responsible for managing sharedmailboxes and case management Sharepoint repositories andfor responding to requests for advice and guidance from staffand students. They will understand the complexities this canpresent and demonstrate good attention to detail. The SenateOfficer will be a resilient colleague who is able to managestudent casework sensitively, demonstrating a high degree oftact and professionalism when dealing with challenging cases.
The Senate Officer will support the Deputy Head of QualityEnhancement and Assurance Team (Senate Office) in deliveringnew resources for staff and students in the areas of academicappeals and disciplinaries and will regularly provide advice andguidance to colleagues undertaking earlier stages of the StudentDiscipline Procedures. They will also support the Deputy Head inmanaging the Misconduct Officers Forum to share and developgood practice and that Misconduct Officers have the appropriateskills and training to manage disciplinary investigations. Inaddition, the Senate Officer will support the Deputy Head withthe introduction and implementation of a student conduct casemanagement system, focusing initially on disciplinary cases withscope to expand into academic appeals.
The post holder will be in contact with a range of colleaguesacross the University and will be required to establish positiveand effective working relationships to further the work of theSenate Office.
