Teaching Assistant - SLD & MLD | Temp-to-Perm Opportunity | Basildon

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) and additional needs ?

We're currently recruiting for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive specialist school in Basildon , providing personalised support to pupils with a range of learning, communication, sensory and behavioural needs.

The Role

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SLD, MLD and additional needs
• Support pupils to access learning and participate fully in classroom activities
• Assist with communication, social interaction and emotional regulation
• Encourage independence and develop pupils' confidence and life skills
• Provide positive, consistent and nurturing behavioural support
• Help pupils develop appropriate coping strategies and build positive relationships
• Support students with personal care and physical needs where required
• Follow individual education and support plans
• Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, therapists and other professionals
• Create a safe, inclusive and encouraging environment where every pupil can thrive

Temp-to-Perm Opportunity

The role will initially start on a temporary basis, allowing you to build strong relationships with pupils and become part of the school community. For the right candidate, there is potential for the position to become permanent .

• Calm and confident when supporting challenging behaviour
• Resilient, adaptable and willing to learn
• Passionate about working with children and young people with additional needs
• A strong communicator and supportive team player
• Comfortable working in a specialist SEN environment
• Committed to promoting independence, dignity and inclusion
• Previous experience within SEN, SLD, MLD, PMLD, behavioural support or care is desirable but not essential

Start: ASAP
Location: Basildon
Hours: Full-time, Monday-Friday, term-time only
