Job Description
We are partnering with a supportive, welcoming and inclusive specialist school in Hemel Hempstead that is seeking committed SEND Teaching Assistants to join its team. The role involves supporting children with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), helping them access learning and develop their communication, independence and social skills.
As this is a hands‑on role, candidates must be comfortable providing personal care when required.
Key Responsibilities for a SEND Teaching Assistant:
- Provide classroom, 1:1 and small-group support to children with SLD.
- Support pupils with their learning, communication and emotional regulation.
- Assist pupils with personal care needs when required.
- Use effective behaviour-management strategies to promote positive behaviour.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
For this role, you will have:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
- Experience with SLD or other complex learning needs is highly desirable.
- Confidence providing personal care and hands-on support.
- Strong behaviour-management and communication skills.
- An enhanced DBS on the update service or a willingness to obtain one, and the ability to commute to Hemel Hempstead.
