About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Automation Engineer to join their operations team in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, UK . This role is pivotal in designing, implementing, and maintaining sophisticated automation and control systems for their Oil & Gas facilities. You will ensure the reliable and efficient operation of plant processes through the application of advanced control strategies and technologies, playing a key part in optimizing production and enhancing safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement robust automation and control systems, including PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems.
- Configure and troubleshoot control loops, safety instrumented systems (SIS), and industrial communication networks.
- Develop functional design specifications (FDS) and implement control strategies.
- Work closely with process engineers and operations teams to identify opportunities for automation and process optimization.
- Manage automation project lifecycles, from conceptualization through to commissioning and handover.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations related to automation and control systems.
- Provide technical support and training to site personnel on automation systems.
- Lead root cause analysis for automation-related failures and implement preventative measures.
Requirements
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in automation engineering , with a strong focus on the Oil & Gas industry or similar process industries.
- In-depth knowledge of PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens), DCS configuration, and SCADA systems.
- Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) design and implementation (e.g., IEC 61511).
- Proficiency in industrial networking protocols (e.g., Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related discipline.
