About the Role
Our client is seeking a knowledgeable Senior Automotive Materials Engineer to join their innovative research and development team in Derby, Derbyshire . This role is crucial for the selection, development, and application of advanced materials that enhance vehicle performance, safety, and sustainability. You will work on cutting-edge projects, collaborating with design, manufacturing, and testing teams to integrate novel materials into automotive components. The hybrid nature of this role allows for collaborative work in the office while providing flexibility for focused research and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate materials (metals, polymers, composites) for various automotive applications based on performance requirements.
- Conduct material testing and analysis to assess properties such as strength, durability, thermal resistance, and corrosion resistance.
- Collaborate with suppliers to source new materials and ensure quality standards are met.
- Investigate material failures and develop solutions to prevent recurrence.
- Contribute to the development of sustainable and lightweight materials for future vehicle platforms.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; Master's or PhD preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in materials engineering within the automotive industry.
- In-depth knowledge of material properties, processing techniques, and failure analysis.
- Experience with material characterization techniques and testing equipment.
- Familiarity with automotive industry standards and regulations related to materials.
