About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Automotive Mechanical Engineer to join their dynamic research and development team in Sunderland . This role focuses on the design, development, and testing of innovative automotive components and systems, contributing to the company's leadership in the automotive sector. You will take ownership of complex engineering projects, working with cross-functional teams to bring new concepts from design to production. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design and development of automotive components, systems, and subsystems.
- Conduct detailed engineering analysis, including FEA and CFD, to validate designs and optimize performance.
- Create and manage 3D CAD models and 2D technical drawings using industry-standard software.
- Oversee prototype development, testing, and validation processes, documenting results thoroughly.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, supply chain, and quality assurance teams to ensure manufacturability and product quality.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers within the design department.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in automotive mechanical design and development.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, NX) and CAE tools (e.g., ANSYS, ABAQUS).
- Strong understanding of materials science, manufacturing processes, and vehicle dynamics.
- Experience with DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly) principles.
- Excellent project management and communication skills.
