Senior Automotive Powertrain Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Automotive Powertrain Engineer to join their hybrid-working team in Wolverhampton . You will play a crucial role in the design, development, and optimization of advanced powertrain systems, encompassing both internal combustion engines and emerging electric/hybrid technologies. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the performance, efficiency, and emissions of future vehicles, with a blend of remote-based analysis and design work, and on-site collaboration for testing and validation. You will be a key contributor to our client's commitment to sustainable and high-performance automotive solutions, driving innovation in a critical area of vehicle engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, analysis, and development of automotive powertrain components and systems, including engines, transmissions, and electric drive units.
• Perform detailed simulations and calculations related to thermal management, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
• Develop and execute testing plans for powertrain components and systems, analyzing results to drive improvements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including controls engineers, vehicle integration teams, and manufacturing, to ensure successful product development.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical strategy and roadmap for powertrain development.
• Stay current with emerging powertrain technologies, including electrification, alternative fuels, and advanced combustion strategies.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
• Extensive experience in automotive powertrain design and development, with a strong understanding of modern engine technologies and/or electric vehicle powertrains.
• Proficiency in powertrain simulation tools (e.g., GT-SUITE, AVL CONCERTO).
• Experience with data acquisition systems and engine/vehicle testing procedures.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with experience in a hybrid work environment.
