Senior Automotive Powertrain Software Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated Senior Automotive Powertrain Software Engineer to join their fully remote team. You will be at the forefront of developing advanced software solutions for internal combustion engines, hybrid, and electric vehicle powertrains. This role offers the flexibility to work from anywhere in the UK, contributing to the efficiency, performance, and emissions control of future vehicles. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement real-time software for powertrain control units (PCUs), focusing on engine management, hybrid control, or electric drive systems.
• Optimize software algorithms for performance, fuel efficiency, emissions reduction, and drivability.
• Develop and maintain calibration tools and strategies for powertrain parameters.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers and system architects to define software and hardware requirements.
• Conduct rigorous testing, simulation, and validation of powertrain software on test benches and in vehicles.
• Ensure compliance with relevant automotive standards and regulations related to emissions and safety.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or Computer Science.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in automotive powertrain software development .
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ programming for embedded real-time systems.
• Experience with powertrain control strategies, engine management systems, or electric/hybrid vehicle architectures.
• Familiarity with automotive communication protocols (e.g., CAN, J1939) and diagnostic tools.
• Experience with MIL/SIL/HIL simulation and testing environments.
