Senior Backend Developer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a seasoned Senior Backend Developer to join their innovative tech team in Reading . This role is vital in developing and maintaining the server-side logic, databases, and APIs that power their core applications. You will contribute to building scalable, high-performance systems, working closely with frontend developers and product managers to deliver exceptional digital products. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of backend technologies, a passion for writing efficient code, and a desire to mentor junior team members, playing a key part in shaping the backend infrastructure and technical direction of the company.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure backend services and APIs.
• Optimize application performance, database queries, and system architecture for efficiency.
• Write clean, well-documented, and thoroughly tested code following best practices.
• Collaborate with frontend developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
• Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues in development, test, and production environments.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Strong proficiency in backend languages such as Python, Java, Node.js, or C#.
• Expertise in designing and working with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and/or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), containerization, and microservices architecture is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
