About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Senior Backend Engineer with expertise in Java and the Spring framework to join their established engineering team in Portsmouth . You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality, scalable backend services that power their core business applications. This role involves working on complex architectural challenges, contributing to technical strategy, and mentoring junior developers. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy robust, scalable, and maintainable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs that adhere to industry best practices and support various client applications.
• Optimize application performance, database interactions, and system architecture for efficiency and reliability.
• Participate actively in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers and junior engineers.
• Collaborate with product managers and front-end developers to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production and development environments.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on backend systems.
• Expertise in Java and extensive experience with the Spring framework (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data).
• Solid understanding of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and ORM technologies.
• Experience with microservices architecture, containerization (Docker), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
