About the Role

Our client is seeking an accomplished Senior Backend Engineer with extensive experience in Java to join their growing technology division in Stoke-on-Trent . This role is essential for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-performance backend systems that power critical business applications. You will play a key role in architectural decisions, code quality, and the mentorship of junior engineers. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy robust and scalable backend services and APIs using Java and associated frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot).
• Optimize application performance, database queries, and system architecture for speed and efficiency.
• Write clean, well-documented, and thoroughly tested code, adhering to high-quality standards.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define requirements and deliver features.
• Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and mentor junior engineers.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production and development environments.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development , with a strong focus on Java .
• Proficiency with the Spring framework, including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Spring Data.
• Strong understanding of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with microservices architecture, RESTful API design, and development.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and containerization technologies (Docker).
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
