About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Backend Engineer to join their fully remote team, contributing to the design and development of robust microservices in Plymouth . This role is pivotal in building scalable, resilient, and high-performance backend systems that power their core product offerings. You will collaborate with a distributed team of engineers, product managers, and designers, taking ownership of features from conception through to deployment. The ideal candidate is passionate about clean code, distributed systems, and leveraging modern technologies to solve complex challenges in a remote-first environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and resilient microservices using modern backend languages and frameworks (e.g., Java/Spring Boot, Python/Django, Node.js).
- Build and manage robust APIs (RESTful, GraphQL) ensuring seamless integration between services and with the frontend.
- Optimize application performance, database interactions, and system architecture for scalability and reliability.
- Write high-quality, well-tested, and maintainable code, participating actively in code reviews.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and deliver features efficiently.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production environments.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development, with a focus on distributed systems.
- Proven experience designing and implementing microservices architectures .
- Strong proficiency in one or more backend programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, Go, Node.js) and associated frameworks.
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, caching mechanisms, and message queues.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).
