About the Role
Our client is seeking an accomplished Senior Backend Engineer with strong Node.js expertise to join their growing technology team in Portsmouth . You will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable server-side applications and APIs that power their core products. This position offers a hybrid working model, allowing for a blend of focused work in the office and the convenience of remote flexibility. You will contribute to architectural decisions and mentor other engineers, driving technical excellence and innovation within a supportive team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable server-side code using Node.js.
- Develop and implement robust RESTful APIs to support frontend applications and external integrations.
- Optimize applications for maximum speed, scalability, and security.
- Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers, and QA engineers to deliver high-quality software.
- Manage database interactions, ensuring data integrity and performance.
- Participate in code reviews, contribute to architectural discussions, and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience in Backend Development , with a significant focus on Node.js .
- Strong understanding of JavaScript, asynchronous programming, and event-driven architecture.
- Experience designing and implementing scalable APIs and microservices.
- Proficiency with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and containerization (Docker) is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a hybrid work setting.
