Senior Backend Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a seasoned Senior Backend Engineer to join their technology team in Oxford . This role is critical in developing and maintaining the server-side logic, databases, and APIs that power their innovative digital products. You will be responsible for designing scalable and efficient backend systems, collaborating with frontend developers and product managers, and ensuring the robustness and performance of the platform. Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code for backend services and APIs.
• Develop and optimize database schemas and queries for performance and scalability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including frontend developers, product managers, and QA engineers.
• Implement security and data protection measures, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
• Write comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and reliability.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems, identifying and implementing performance enhancements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development .
• Proficiency in one or more backend programming languages such as Python, Java, Node.js, or C#.
• Strong understanding of database technologies (e.g., SQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and data modeling.
• Experience with API design and development (RESTful APIs).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker) is a plus.
