Senior Backend Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join their growing technology division in Edinburgh . You will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining the server-side logic and APIs that power our client's innovative products. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain robust, scalable, and efficient backend services and APIs using languages such as Python, Java, or Node.js.
• Design and implement database schemas and manage data persistence using SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Optimize application performance, ensuring responsiveness and scalability under heavy load.
• Collaborate with frontend developers and product managers to define and implement new features.
• Write clean, well-documented, and thoroughly tested code, participating actively in code reviews.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and decision-making processes for backend systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Strong proficiency in at least one modern backend programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Go, Node.js).
• Solid understanding of database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB) and ORMs.
• Experience with designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker) is a plus.
