About the Role
Our client is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join their growing technology division in Edinburgh . You will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining the server-side logic and APIs that power our client's innovative products. This position offers the chance to work on challenging projects, contribute to architectural decisions, and collaborate with a passionate team dedicated to building high-quality, scalable software solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain robust, scalable, and efficient backend services and APIs using languages such as Python, Java, or Node.js.
- Design and implement database schemas and manage data persistence using SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Optimize application performance, ensuring responsiveness and scalability under heavy load.
- Collaborate with frontend developers and product managers to define and implement new features.
- Write clean, well-documented, and thoroughly tested code, participating actively in code reviews.
- Contribute to architectural discussions and decision-making processes for backend systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
- Strong proficiency in at least one modern backend programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Go, Node.js).
- Solid understanding of database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB) and ORMs.
- Experience with designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker) is a plus.
