Senior Backend Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join their growing team in Portsmouth, Hampshire . This hybrid role involves contributing to the design, development, and maintenance of robust, scalable backend systems and APIs that power our client's core products. You will work collaboratively with frontend engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable backend services and APIs using modern programming languages and frameworks.
• Optimize application performance, database queries, and system architecture for high availability and efficiency.
• Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code, adhering to industry best practices and coding standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Participate actively in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and promoting knowledge sharing.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production and staging environments.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Strong proficiency in at least one backend programming language such as Python, Java, Node.js, or C#.
• Demonstrated experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and/or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities, and a proactive approach to teamwork.
