About the Role
Our client, a leader in the development of novel therapeutic proteins, is seeking a talented Senior Biochemist to join their dynamic team in Glasgow . This role focuses on the intricate field of protein engineering, where you will be instrumental in designing, producing, and characterizing engineered proteins for therapeutic applications. You will work at the interface of biochemistry, molecular biology, and structural biology, contributing to projects from conception through to validation. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your expertise in protein chemistry to develop next-generation biologics within a state-of-the-art research environment in Scotland , collaborating with a dedicated team of scientists.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute experiments for the engineering and optimization of therapeutic proteins.
- Develop and implement assays for assessing protein stability, activity, and binding kinetics.
- Purify recombinant proteins using various chromatography techniques.
- Characterize protein structure and function using methods such as spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and electrophoretic techniques.
- Collaborate with molecular biologists to generate protein expression constructs and with cell biologists to assess protein activity in cellular systems.
- Troubleshoot experimental challenges and optimize protocols for protein production and characterization.
Requirements
- PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field with a strong focus on protein chemistry.
- Minimum of 4 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in protein engineering and characterization.
- Proven expertise in protein purification techniques (e.g., FPLC, affinity chromatography) and biochemical assays.
- Experience with structural biology techniques (e.g., X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of protein expression systems (e.g., bacterial, mammalian, insect cell).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
