About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Bioinformatician to join their expanding genomics research team based in Portsmouth . This role is central to harnessing the power of big data in biological research, developing and applying computational tools and pipelines to analyze diverse omics datasets. You will work closely with experimental biologists and clinicians to uncover novel insights into disease mechanisms and identify potential therapeutic targets. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain scalable bioinformatics pipelines for the analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data (e.g., WGS, WES, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq).
- Perform statistical analysis and interpretation of large-scale genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomic datasets.
- Collaborate with researchers to define analytical strategies, interpret results, and generate biologically meaningful insights.
- Design and implement databases and tools for data management, visualization, and sharing.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in bioinformatics, computational biology, and relevant biological domains.
- Mentor junior bioinformaticians and contribute to the development of computational best practices within the team in Portsmouth .
Requirements
- PhD or MSc in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in bioinformatics, with a strong focus on NGS data analysis.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and shell scripting.
- Expertise in using bioinformatics tools and databases (e.g., BLAST, ENSEMBL, UCSC Genome Browser).
- Solid understanding of statistical methods and machine learning techniques relevant to biological data.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) is highly desirable.
