Senior Chemical Process Development Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a seasoned Senior Chemical Process Development Engineer to lead key innovation projects from their Wolverhampton base. This role involves spearheading the development of novel chemical processes, scaling them from lab to pilot and commercial stages, and ensuring robust, cost-effective manufacturing solutions. You will work in a hybrid capacity, collaborating with research teams and manufacturing personnel to translate scientific breakthroughs into tangible products. This is a challenging and rewarding position for an experienced engineer focused on driving innovation and technical advancement.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of new chemical processes, from bench-scale feasibility studies through to pilot plant validation and commercialization support.
• Design and execute experiments to optimize reaction conditions, separation techniques, and overall process efficiency.
• Perform detailed process design calculations, equipment sizing, and P&ID development for scale-up.
• Conduct thorough process hazard assessments and ensure safety is integrated into all design phases.
• Transfer developed processes to manufacturing, providing technical support during commissioning and ramp-up.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the company's intellectual property through invention and patenting.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering .
• 7+ years of experience in process R&D, scale-up, and technology transfer within the chemical industry.
• Proven track record of successfully developing and commercializing new chemical processes.
• Expertise in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus) and statistical experimental design (DoE).
• Strong understanding of reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and separation science.
• Excellent project management and communication skills for collaborating across functions.
