About the Role
Our client is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Computational Chemist to join their dynamic research and development team in Belfast . This role is critical for advancing their drug discovery programs by applying advanced computational techniques to understand molecular interactions and predict compound properties. You will be instrumental in designing novel molecules with improved efficacy and safety profiles. Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will collaborate closely with medicinal chemists, biologists, and structural biologists to accelerate the identification and optimization of lead compounds, contributing to the development of new therapies.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and apply computational chemistry methods, including molecular modeling, docking, virtual screening, and QSAR, to support drug discovery projects.
- Design novel molecular structures with desired properties using in silico approaches and structure-based drug design.
- Analyze and interpret complex data from computational studies and experimental assays, providing strategic recommendations.
- Collaborate effectively with experimental chemists and biologists to integrate computational insights with empirical data.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new computational tools and workflows.
Requirements
- PhD in Computational Chemistry, Cheminformatics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in computational chemistry within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
- Strong proficiency in computational chemistry software (e.g., Schrödinger, MOE, Maestro) and molecular modeling techniques.
- Experience with cheminformatics databases and tools for chemical data analysis and management.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills for presenting complex scientific concepts.
