Senior Computational Scientist - Cheminformatics

About the Role

Our client is actively seeking a skilled Senior Computational Scientist with a focus on Cheminformatics to join their fully remote research team. This role is integral to accelerating drug discovery and development through the application of computational methods to chemical and biological data. You will design and implement tools and strategies for molecular representation, similarity searching, virtual screening, and QSAR modeling. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in chemistry and computer science, with a proven ability to develop and deploy computational solutions that drive scientific innovation across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and apply cheminformatics tools and algorithms for compound library design, virtual screening, and property prediction.
• Design and implement novel molecular representations and descriptors relevant to drug discovery.
• Collaborate with medicinal chemists and biologists to support project goals with computational analysis.
• Build and maintain databases of chemical and biological information, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
• Develop and validate quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models and other predictive models.
• Contribute to the development of cheminformatics software and workflows.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Cheminformatics, Computational Chemistry, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of professional experience in cheminformatics or computational chemistry within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, with extensive experience using cheminformatics toolkits (e.g., RDKit, Open Babel).
• Strong understanding of chemical structures, databases, and molecular modeling techniques.
• Experience with machine learning techniques applied to chemical data.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working effectively in a remote team environment.
