About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Senior Conservation Architect to join their prestigious practice in Cambridge . This role is dedicated to the sensitive and expert management of historic buildings and heritage assets. You will be responsible for undertaking surveys, developing conservation strategies, and overseeing sensitive restoration and repair projects, ensuring the preservation of architectural heritage while integrating modern requirements. The successful candidate will possess a profound understanding of historic materials and construction techniques, coupled with strong project management skills, working predominantly from their well-appointed office.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake detailed condition surveys and historical research for historic buildings and heritage sites.
• Develop comprehensive conservation management plans and repair strategies.
• Prepare specifications and drawings for sensitive restoration, repair, and adaptive reuse projects.
• Liaise with heritage bodies, local authorities, and stakeholders to secure necessary approvals.
• Oversee site works, ensuring meticulous attention to detail and adherence to conservation principles.
• Provide expert advice on the use of traditional materials and building techniques.

Requirements

• Qualified Architect with specialist knowledge and experience in conservation architecture.
• Minimum of 7 years' experience focused on the historic built environment.
• Accreditation or strong understanding of conservation principles and methodologies.
• Proficiency in architectural design software, with an appreciation for traditional drawing techniques.
• Excellent understanding of historic building materials, construction, and degradation mechanisms.
• Strong research, analytical, and report-writing skills.
