Senior Control Systems Engineer - Industrial Automation

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly skilled Senior Control Systems Engineer to join their industrial automation team in Southampton . This role is critical for designing, implementing, and maintaining sophisticated control systems for a variety of industrial processes, with a strong emphasis on the energy and manufacturing sectors . You will be responsible for ensuring the seamless operation, efficiency, and safety of automated machinery and processes. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and commission advanced control systems for industrial machinery and processes using PLCs, SCADA, and DCS.
• Develop and maintain PLC ladder logic, structured text, and function block programming for various platforms (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley).
• Implement and troubleshoot Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and SCADA systems for process monitoring and control.
• Conduct system integration, testing, and validation to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance teams on control system functionality.
• Stay current with new technologies in industrial automation and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering practices.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in control systems engineering , with significant exposure to industrial automation .
• Proficiency in programming and configuring major PLC brands (e.g., Siemens S7, Rockwell Logix) and SCADA systems.
• Strong understanding of instrumentation, process control loops, and safety systems (SIL).
• Experience with motion control, robotics, and network communication protocols (e.g., Profinet, Ethernet/IP).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a project-driven environment.
