Senior Control Systems Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly proficient Senior Control Systems Engineer to join their innovative team in Portsmouth , contributing to the development and implementation of advanced control solutions for the energy sector. You will be responsible for the design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of complex Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) for power generation facilities and associated infrastructure. This role requires a deep understanding of automation technologies, real-time systems, and safety protocols, ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of critical energy assets. You will work collaboratively with project teams, suppliers, and clients to deliver state-of-the-art automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop PLC/DCS control strategies, logic, and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) applications for industrial processes.
• Configure, test, and commission control systems, including loop tuning and system integration.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including P&IDs, control narratives, and system architecture diagrams.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex control system issues during the commissioning phase and provide ongoing support.
• Collaborate with electrical and instrumentation engineers to ensure seamless integration of control systems.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in control system technology and recommend improvements to existing systems.

Requirements

• A degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in designing, implementing, and commissioning industrial control systems.
• Proficiency with major PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, ABB) and DCS systems.
• Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
• Experience with functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508/61511) and SIL assessments.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
