About the Role
Our client is looking for an exceptional Senior Data Scientist to lead their energy analytics initiatives, working remotely to support operations across the UK, including teams based in Reading . This role involves leveraging advanced machine learning and statistical techniques to extract actionable insights from vast energy datasets. You will be instrumental in developing predictive models for energy consumption, grid stability, and market forecasting, driving strategic decisions and operational efficiencies. This is a high-impact position for a visionary data scientist passionate about solving complex challenges in the energy sector .
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy machine learning models for energy forecasting, anomaly detection, and optimisation.
- Analyse large-scale energy datasets (smart meter, grid, market data) to uncover trends and patterns.
- Design and implement A/B tests and experiments to validate hypotheses and model performance.
- Collaborate with engineering and business teams to define data requirements and project roadmaps.
- Communicate complex findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to the development of best practices in data science and analytics.
- Stay current with the latest research and advancements in AI, machine learning, and energy analytics.
Requirements
- PhD or Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- 5+ years of professional experience as a Data Scientist , with a strong focus on predictive modeling and machine learning.
- Expertise in programming languages such as Python or R, and relevant libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Proficiency in SQL and experience working with large datasets and distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Spark).
- Demonstrated ability to translate business problems into analytical solutions.
- Strong understanding of the energy industry , including energy markets, grid operations, or consumer behaviour, is highly desirable.
