Senior Development Engineer

The starting salary for this role is £48,698 per annum, working 36 hours per week.

We have an opportunity for a Senior Development Engineer to join our Transport Development Planning Technical Team, based in Woking. In this role you will focus on new residential developments across West Surrey, including Shepperton Studios, Deepcut Barracks, Longcross, Wisley and others.

You will attend the office at least one day a week but a significant part of the role involves inspecting works on site to ensure construction is carried out in accordance with approved drawings and specifications. Approximately half of your time will be spent travelling to sites across Surrey, with occasional out-of-hours attendance required to support inspections and project delivery.

About The Role

In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring the successful delivery of new highway infrastructure across Surrey. You will be responsible for checking, assessing and approving Section 38 and Section 278 engineering layouts, designs and specifications, ensuring that all proposals meet the required standards and contribute to the development of safe, sustainable and high-quality highways.

Working closely with Transport Development Planning Officers, developers and a range of internal teams, you will provide expert technical advice and help shape highway schemes from design through to completion. You will ensure that all new highway projects comply with current standards while supporting Surrey's Healthy Streets for Surrey approach, helping to create greener, more inclusive places that enable sustainable travel and ensure no one is left behind.

Shortlisting Criteria

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our :

A degree, HNC, or relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, alongside membership of an appropriate engineering institution. Substantial practical experience in highway design, engineering, and construction, including extensive experience across a range of construction sites. A full and detailed knowledge of national principles, practices, and procedures relating to highway improvement projects. Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise high levels of initiative to implement workable solutions. Proven written and oral communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders, establish highly effective relationships, and manage your time effectively under pressure.
