Senior Electrical Design Engineer (Decarbonisation & Energy Solutions)
Location: Manchester (Hybrid)

The Opportunity
Advance TRS is partnering with a leading engineering and facilities management organisation to recruit a Senior Electrical Design Engineer specialising in decarbonisation and energy solutions. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering sustainable retrofit and low-carbon building projects across the public and commercial sectors.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will lead the electrical design of projects from concept through to delivery, providing technical expertise across solar PV, battery storage, LV power distribution, lighting, and energy-efficient building systems.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the electrical design and coordination of decarbonisation and sustainable retrofit projects.
Produce detailed electrical designs from RIBA Stages 2-5, including calculations, single-line diagrams, schematics, specifications and technical reports.
Design LV electrical infrastructure incorporating:
Solar PV (roof-mounted, ground-mounted & BIPV)
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
LED lighting
Smart controls
Heat pump integration
Manage DNO applications from feasibility through to approval.
Coordinate designs with mechanical, energy and BIM teams.
Review, check and approve electrical designs to BS7671 and UK Building Regulations.
Attend client meetings and provide technical guidance throughout project delivery.
Mentor junior engineers and support technical development within the team.
Support bids, fee proposals and design risk management. About You
You will have experience delivering electrical design within low-carbon or decarbonisation projects and be confident leading multidisciplinary design packages.
Essential Requirements
Degree in Electrical or Building Services Engineering.
Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards.
Strong background in LV electrical design.
Experience designing solar PV and low-carbon energy systems.
Knowledge of DNO application processes.
Experience across full RIBA design stages.
Proficient in AutoCAD (Revit/BIM desirable).
Excellent understanding of:
BS7671
IET Wiring Regulations
UK Building Regulations
CIBSE guidance
PAS2035
MCS Standards
Building Safety Act
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Desirable Experience
Public sector decarbonisation programmes.
PSDS, SHDF or WHDF funded projects.
Design & Build and Traditional procurement.
