Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Systems

About the Role

Our client is seeking a seasoned Senior Electrical Engineer with a specialization in Power Systems to join their dynamic team in Southampton . This role is integral to the design, analysis, and implementation of robust electrical power infrastructure for critical applications. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of power distribution networks and substations, working on challenging projects that require deep technical expertise. Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop detailed electrical power system schematics, single-line diagrams, and protection schemes.
• Conduct power flow, short circuit, and stability studies using industry-standard software.
• Specify electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, generators, and protective relays.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant national and international power system standards and regulations.
• Perform site surveys and technical assessments for new power system installations and upgrades.
• Collaborate with project teams to provide electrical engineering support throughout project execution, from concept to completion.

Requirements

• BEng or MEng in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems.
• Minimum of 6 years' experience in electrical power system design and analysis.
• Proficiency with power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
• Thorough understanding of high voltage equipment, protection systems, and grid codes.
• Experience in project management and contract administration for electrical infrastructure projects.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions.
