About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Embedded Systems Engineer to join their innovative product development team, working remotely from anywhere within the UK (near Edinburgh, Scotland, UK for team meetups) . This role is critical in designing, developing, and testing embedded software and hardware solutions for next-generation products. You will be instrumental in driving technical decisions, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring the successful integration of complex embedded systems, all within a supportive and fully remote work environment that encourages creativity and autonomy.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and debug embedded firmware and software for microcontrollers and embedded systems using C/C++ and assembly languages.
- Develop and maintain hardware interfaces, including sensor integration, communication protocols (e.g., SPI, I2C, UART), and power management.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to define system requirements and ensure seamless integration of hardware and software components.
- Implement and optimize real-time operating systems (RTOS) for embedded applications, ensuring performance and stability.
- Perform rigorous testing, debugging, and validation of embedded systems, including unit testing and integration testing.
- Contribute to the overall system architecture and design decisions, providing expert insights into embedded system capabilities and limitations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of professional experience in embedded systems development, with a strong focus on firmware and software.
- Proficiency in C and C++ programming for embedded environments, including low-level driver development.
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS), such as FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or similar.
- Familiarity with hardware debugging tools, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative team .
