Senior Energy Trader - Commodities

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Energy Trader to join their dynamic trading desk in Reading . This role involves actively participating in the trading of energy commodities across various markets, aiming to maximize profit and manage risk effectively. You will leverage your deep understanding of market dynamics, price fluctuations, and risk management strategies to make critical trading decisions. Working in a hybrid model, you will collaborate closely with a team of traders, analysts, and risk managers to navigate the complex and fast-paced energy trading environment within the Berkshire region.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute trades in wholesale energy markets (e.g., gas, power, carbon credits) to achieve profit targets.
• Monitor market news, economic indicators, and geopolitical events that may impact energy prices.
• Develop and implement trading strategies based on market analysis, technical indicators, and fundamental data.
• Manage and mitigate trading risks, ensuring positions are within defined risk parameters.
• Collaborate with energy analysts to generate market insights and trading opportunities.
• Maintain accurate trading records and communicate position updates to management and relevant departments.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, counterparties, and other market participants.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in energy commodity trading or a closely related financial trading role.
• Proven track record of successful trading in competitive energy markets.
• Strong understanding of energy market structures, trading platforms, and risk management principles.
• Excellent analytical, quantitative, and decision-making skills under pressure.
• Proficiency in trading software and data analysis tools.
• Effective communication and negotiation skills, comfortable working in a hybrid setup.
