Job Description
We are seeking a Senior OHL Engineer to join our Transmission & Distribution Engineering team and help shape the future of energy infrastructure in the UK.
Project Overview
As part of a £9bn partnership with the UK National Grid, you will work directly on the Great Grid Upgrade – a groundbreaking project to connect clean energy to homes and businesses across England and Wales by 2030.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support in delivering overhead line design on complex multi‑discipline projects.
- Participate in large programmes such as the Great Grid Partnership projects.
- Support proposal writing and outline project details, including timeline, resources, budget, objectives, and goals.
- Offer technical support throughout project implementation, mandatory statutory planning, and public consultation events.
- Lead design activities for overhead lines, including PLS‑CADD modelling, line routing, structural analysis, loading trees, design criteria formulation, sag‑tension calculations, conductor and insulator selection, and clearance reporting.
- Conduct feasibility studies and thermally rate conductors to ensure industry standard compliance.
- Identify and present technically preferred solutions and layouts to clients.
- Develop engineering deliverables such as designs, reports, proposals, presentations, and drawing packages.
- Perform internal quality checks of engineering drawings and calculations.

Qualifications
- Professionally qualified CEng Chartered Engineer recognised by a statutory engineering institution (e.g., IET).
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline such as electrical or power engineering.
- Experience delivering projects for transmission system operators such as National Grid, SSE, and SPT in line with each operator’s standards.
- Project experience in overhead line engineering up to 400 kV.
- Demonstrated client relationship management and business development skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
