Senior Environmental Scientist - Mining Compliance

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Senior Environmental Scientist to join their team, operating with a hybrid model based in Reading . This role is pivotal in ensuring that all mining operations meet and exceed stringent environmental regulations and sustainability goals. You will be responsible for environmental impact assessments, developing mitigation strategies, and overseeing compliance monitoring across various projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong scientific background, extensive knowledge of environmental legislation, and proven experience in the mining sector . Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) for new and existing mining projects.
• Develop and implement environmental management plans, including waste management, water management, and biodiversity protection strategies.
• Monitor environmental performance, collect and analyze data, and prepare detailed compliance reports for regulatory bodies.
• Advise project teams on environmental best practices, permitting requirements, and regulatory changes.
• Liaise with government agencies, local authorities, and community stakeholders on environmental matters.
• Investigate and manage environmental incidents, developing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in environmental management, with a significant focus on the mining or extractive industries .
• In-depth knowledge of environmental legislation and permitting processes in the UK .
• Proven experience with EIA methodologies, impact assessment, and mitigation planning.
• Strong analytical, research, and report-writing skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work setting.
