About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and imaginative Senior Exhibition Curator to join their esteemed institution in Newcastle upon Tyne . This role is central to developing and delivering engaging and thought-provoking exhibitions that resonate with diverse audiences. You will be responsible for conceptualizing exhibition themes, researching and acquiring key artworks, and overseeing the entire curatorial process, working closely with collection managers, designers, and education teams. Key Responsibilities
- Conceptualize, research, and develop compelling exhibition proposals and narratives.
- Identify, propose, and oversee the acquisition of artworks for exhibition and the permanent collection.
- Manage all aspects of exhibition development, including budgets, timelines, and loan agreements.
- Collaborate with exhibition designers, conservators, and educators to realize the full potential of each exhibition.
- Write engaging interpretive texts, catalogue essays, and public-facing materials.
- Engage with artists, collectors, and the public through talks, tours, and research initiatives.
Requirements
- Advanced degree (MA or PhD) in Art History, Curatorial Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of professional curatorial experience, with a strong exhibition record.
- Deep knowledge of a specific art historical period or contemporary art movements relevant to the client's collection.
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly.
- Demonstrated experience in managing budgets, fundraising, and cultivating donor relationships.
